September Woods Garland
Writer | Editor | Existential Feminist
Born and raised in La Conner, WA, September spent her youth exploring the woods of the Swinomish Indian Reservation and the plant and sea life of the San Juan Islands. The magic and myths of her upbringing have informed her writing into adulthood, resulting in a growing collection of literary and cross-genre work that explores themes of personal transformation, grief, trauma, and feminism.
September's work is forthcoming in Cross & Crow Key and Roi Fainéant Press and has been published in The Sprawl Mag, Black Sheep Magazine, Idle Ink, and elsewhere. She is currently drafting her novel Grief Spree, a literary psychological thriller.
September currently works as a freelance book editor. She is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Weird Lit Magazine and the founder of the Sasquatch Club writing collective.
Prior to her writing and editing career, September founded and fronted the goth rock band Hills of Elysium. September led this project through the release of three studio albums, regional performances, and a Norwegian tour. She and her bandmates constructed a recording studio that served as an incubator for a collective of local bands and solo artists. In addition to her duties as band manager and lead singer, September mentored numerous emerging musical acts and collaborated with other musicians, artists, filmmakers, and photographers.
When she's not writing or editing, September can be found veganizing her favorite Japanese dishes, combing rocky beaches of the Pacific Northwest, and daydreaming about becoming a floatplane pilot. She lives in Richmond Beach, WA with her partner and three feline familiars.
